"Le partenaire" narrates the story of a apocryphal tenor, who in a performance with the soprano María Callas in Paris (December 1958), ended up attracting al the public attention from the diva. The role of "partenaire" is played by the artist (Hernán Marina), using the name Théophile Hiroux (supposed tenor with the Paris Opera) singing a duet with Callas and interpreting "E lucevan le stelle" , the aria from Act III in Tosca (not programmed in the original concert). The work, which can be viewed with a knowing ironic nod to high-brow culture, tries to problematise postproduction as the key axis of contemporary art production. At the same time, it also tenses the idea of the star or diva, taking the competition between and the unknown tenor to levels of the absurd. |
