It was an unfinished short film made in 1951, considered as a draft for "The very eye of Night". As with the later masterpiece, Deren films “a choreography for camera” in negative so that the dancers seem to float free of earthbound planes. Sometimes the dancers appear as if figures on a mobile, sometimes as phantasms. Even as their movements seem to describe purity itself, the rushing black of the negative image unavoidably suggests a spiritual void. This work transcends the comfortable view for an intoxicating study in ecstasy and risk
