The work of Willie Doherty, since the beginnings of the 80's, is constantly focus on political topics, as representation, territory, surveillance, and the identity, especially about North Ireland, using photo and video.
On his work, Doherty puts the violent politics on his own country into other more general, that one that comes everyday: the casual and insignificance violence of the socialization of the humanityy. On his installations, the viewer can see his own participation on that violence. As the characters on his videos, that suddenly changes their roles from see to be seeing, we can begin to doubt about our inocence.
Willie Doherty was born on 1959 in Derry, North-Ireland. From 1978 to 1981 he studied on the university of Ulser in Belfast. He was a witness of the "Bloddy Sunday" in Derry, as the called "The Troubles" on his country. Now this events are the main theme on his work. He is now recognized as one of the major artist on Ireland, and his work has been presented in museums as the George Pompidou Center, Museo Reina Sofía de Madrid, Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico and The Tate Gallery de Londres.
