Raymond Hains is one of the 20th century's greatest artists when it comes to experimenting with the media of photography and filmmaking. As such he is especially known for his work with the surrealism, where he was examining mirrors and glass as a material for his productions. Further, he used the collage as a media and his work can be connected to the Neo Dada movement in the beginning of the 1950´s. Later his work tends to be more similar to Pop Art.

During his career, Hains worked with artists as Yves Klein, Martial Raysse and Jacques de la Villeglé and he exhibited at museums like the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Museum of Modern Art in New York. Hains also participated in the Documenta 4 and in the Documenta X.
He died in Paris in 2005.
