Except being a video artist, Kate Horsfield was the co-founder and executive director of the Video Data Bank at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago together with Lyn Blumenthal. As such she was an impotent force for one of the most important collections of video art in the United States.

In her own videos, she often deals with women issues as sex, gender, racism and power without her videos being directly feministic.
