Physiologist and cronphotographer, the work of Marey is considered of great significance for the development of cinematography and the scientific use of photography. Marey´s 'methode graphique', which studied movement using recorded instruments and graphs, analysed diagrammatically the walk of man and of a horse, the flight of birds and insects.

Later he made a considerable number of motion analysis filmstrips of technical and aesthetic quality that influence on all the pioneering of the cinema like Thomas Edison and Louis Lumière.
