Primarily working with video and photography, Adrien Missika blurs the boundaries between fiction, authentic document and pure illusion. Inspired mainly by architecture, landscape and archaeology, the artist constructs his pieces using a range of well-known visual symbols collected from historical works, films, comic books and postcards.

Missika's staged photographs and videos of romantic landscapes, sci-fi narratives and natural occurrences are either created using imperfect models and stage-sets, or assembled out of the artist?s own travel pictures and found imagery. He installs his pieces using a variety of display mechanisms that create a distance between the viewer and the work, thus creating a partial displacement that ultimately reveals the nature of our perceptions, expectations and desires.
