DELLBRÜGGE & DE MOLL
Lives & works in Berlin (Germany) Very active in: 80s, 90s, 2000s, Current decade
Dellbrügge & de Moll is an artist duo creating multimedia works. As students Christiane Dellbrügge (born in 1961, Illinois, USA) and Ralf de Moll (born in1961, Saarlouis, Germany) met at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany, where they began experimenting with video, performances and public stagings. With a grant of the Künstlerhaus Bethanien the artist couple moved to Berlin in 1988, where they still live and work.
The artworks of Dellbrügge & de Moll mainly challenge the process of discourse production and the immanent role art within. Their approach is based on media- and art-theory, questioning and conceptualising the codes and conditions of art and its interference with the public. Their work Video-Theorie 1-4 for example explicitly visualises the closed circuit of the operating system of art and the production of discourse, using media theory as a source of artistic creation. In consequence to their theoretic and artistic reflections Dellbrügge & de Moll scrutinise the concept of the white cube and integrate public, digital and institutional spaces. They also publish print media, produce video programs and exhibitions.
