Theresa Hak Kyung Cha was born in Korea during the Korean War, but with her family she moved to California, the United States. Here she studied Comparative Literature at the Berkley University. After her degree she moved to Paris and studied filmmaking and critical theory.
Hak Kyung Cha is known for her book ?Dictee?, her work as a performance artist and films and her experiments with the visual media. She concentrates on themes as ethnicity and gender and her work is said to explore interactions of language, meaning and memory.
