Multidisciplinary Innovator
By Macu Moran

Abad is a multidisciplinary artist who has produced videos, installations and net art. He is a pioneer artist who utilizes the latest resources available in digital technology to portrait the influences of the mass media. In 1995 he simultaneously exhibited the piece "Sisif" in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) and on the other side of the world in in the Wellington Museum of New Zealand in which two naked men (one at each of those locations) pull a string, uniting metaphorically the world through the World Wide Web.

His channels on ZEXE.net (tv online to display latest works) have been done using micro technologies, such as cell phones with video cameras, distributed to individuals from different kinds of communities, in an attempt at capturing their daily lives. These include the Gypsy community, the prostitute community as well as, the wheel chair bound physically handicapped community.

Art history graduate of the University of Barcelona and multimedia artist, he has exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, 2003; PS1, Long Island City, New York, 2003; Hamburger Banhof, Berlin, 2002; Media Lounge/New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, 2001; and has been invited to Le Fresnoy, Francia, 2000; Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, 1999; 2nd Iberoamerican Biennial in Lima, 1999; ZKM'net_condition, Karlsruhe, 1999; Dapertutto/ Venice Biennial, 1999; Espacio Uno/Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, 1997. In 1999, he was awarded the electronic ARCO prize, for the piece 1.000.000, which was acquired by Sanitas Foundation, and became the first piece of net art purchased in the Spanish territory.
