The works of the multimedia artist Danica Dakic frequently ask for the interference of the collective and the individual identity. In 1988 the Bosnian artist has to leave Yoguslavia and continues her studies at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art under Nam June Paik.
Concerned with the disappearance and redefinition of identity through social change, globalisation and war her video- and sound installations, films and photographs always have political dimension. However, her approaches are poetic, surrealistic or sometimes playful visions, originating in and projected back into reality. In some of her works Danica Dakic herself appears as a part of the composure. Iin the video installation Autoporait her face consists of two mouths, both telling a fairy tail at the same time, one in Bosnian, the other in German.
Her video work NY Diary was exposed within the exhibition 40yearsvideoart.de, Digital Heritage: Videoart in Germany From 1963 to the Present. She will present her new multimedia performance El Dorado in the documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany.
The artist lives and works in Sarajevo and Düsseldorf.
