Born 1962 in Groningen (NL). born 1962 in Groningen (NL); studies at the Academie Minerva in Groningen (1983-88). Since 1995 working with film, video, photography. Lives and works in Amsterdam.
Mik's installations often invade the physical space of the gallery. In one of his most recent works, Parallel Corner (2003), multiple viewpoints are projected onto a series of four consecutive screens to create the impression of a real event in real space.
All screens depict the same situation, but seen from a slightly different perspective, thus revealing the activity that takes place beyond each camera frame. The work attempts to disclose the situation as a whole, but in fact exposes the ambiguous relations between an event and its mediation.
